Today, Sony has unveiled PlayStation Studios, new branding of Sony Worldwide Studios featuring characters from The Last of Us, Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, Horizon, and Little Big Planet.
This will coincide with PS5’s launch and rebrand the older ‘Sony Computer/Sony Interactive Entertainment Presents’ logo that appeared on first-party titles.
In a recent GameIndustry.biz article, Eric Lempel, Sr. VP of Global Marketing at SIE is defiantly aware of the Marvel influence of the logo sequence and said: “We’re all huge marvel Fans”.
Unfortunately, this logo will miss the releases of The Last of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima which are slated to release June and July respectively. These in some fans’ eyes some fans are swan songs for this generation. It will also miss the PC release of Horizon: Zero Dawn as well.
It will also appear on partner titles which aren’t directly owned by but are brought up as First Party Titles. A good example of this was the PS4 versions of Death Stranding and Predator: Hunting Grounds.
It may not be a console revel or a line-up showpiece, but it definitely shows Sony isn’t growing complacent like in the early PS3 days. A link to the video is down below.
