Rollcage Inspired Combat Racer GRIP is Coming to the PS4

Wired Productions LTD. and developer Caged Element Inc. have recently announced that their latest project GRIP will be coming the PlayStation 4. Now at first glance you may think that grip is an HD remaster of Rollcage which was released back in 1999 on the original PlayStation. Well, you wouldn’t be crazy for thinking that as GRIP‘s developers were heavily inspired by that classic combat racer.

“We’re very excited to finally announce our partnership with Wired Productions today,” said Chris Mallinson, Game Director at Caged Element. GRIP began as a passion project paying tribute to the great Rollcage games and racers of a past era, but it’s now truly transformed into a fully-fledged, futuristic combat racer fit for this generation. We’re extremely proud of the game and can’t wait to unleash it later this year on all platforms. Combat racing is back, baby.”

GRIP draws its inspiration from Rollcage, which is a good thing.

“As long-standing fans of Rollcage and the combat racing genre, we’re delighted to sign GRIP and to build our partnership with the incredible team at Caged Element,” said Leo Zullo, Managing Director at Wired Productions. “Born from passion and nostalgia, driven by great minds and taking full advantage of the latest capabilities in both engine and hardware, GRIP is a racer with limitless horsepower and the title to keep your eye on this year.”

While the game may draw its inspiration from a classic racer, GRIP is designed to take advantage of current-gen consoles and is “fully enhanced for PlayStation 4 Pro”. Attendees at PAX East, will be able to get their hands on the game at Booth #20031. GRIP is already available via early access on Steam and will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One X, Nintendo Switch and PC later this year.
